Gardeneers

School Gardening For Food And Health Equity

Gardeneers builds school and community gardens and farms in Chicago neighborhoods that have historically lacked equitable access to fresh produce. Through hands-on learning, children in kindergarten through twelfth grade experience every aspect of growing their own food. Our programs allow children to connect with nature, grow and harvest their own fruits and vegetables, and learn about nutrition and healthy food choices. In partnership with schools and community leadership, we select garden sites where there is a shared desire for racial and social justice through a more equitable food system. Founded by May Tsupros and Adam Zmick after they witnessed the lack of healthy food in the schools where they taught, Gardeneers now impacts more than 1800 students in over 20 schools and annually produces more than 5,000 pounds of fresh produce.
