Furnishing The Homes Of Those Moving Into Supportive Housing
The mission of the Chicago Furniture Bank is to provide dignity, stability, and comfort to Chicagoans moving into supportive housing by allowing them to handpick an entire home’s worth of furnishings. For only $50, clients are able to come to our 6,000-square-foot warehouse and pick out beds, couches, armchairs, dressers, coffee tables, end tables, kitchen tables, kitchen chairs, lamps, mirrors, artwork, kitchenware, rugs, desks, and more – at an average value of $1,100. By recycling gently used household items, we create value through furnishing homes for people in need, creating jobs for at-risk youth, reducing environmental waste in landfills, and providing a convenient removal service to donors. Founded by three seniors at the University of Pennsylvania, the Chicago Furniture Bank has furnished more than 950 homes for 2,502 people.
