CommunityHealth
Providing Free High-Quality Medical Care To The Uninsured
Founded in 1993, CommunityHealth is the largest volunteer-based health center in the nation. We provide primary and specialty care, medications, lab testing, mental health services, and health education at no charge to low-income, uninsured adults in Chicago. We believe that health care is a fundamental right and everyone deserves access to high-quality services. After learning about the high number of Chicagoans with no insurance and no access to health care, Dr. Serafino Garella founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to build healthier communities. CommunityHealth is made possible by more than 1,000 volunteers – including 350+ physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, counselors, etc. – who donate nearly 60,000 hours of their time every year.
