Global Hub For Timebanking To Empower Communities
Timebanking offers a lifeline to those who feel isolated or overlooked, especially individuals with limited financial means. By exchanging time and talents instead of money, people build reciprocal relationships that restore dignity, purpose, and belonging. It’s a system where everyone’s contributions matter, and no one is left out. The concept was pioneered by Dr. Edgar Cahn in 1980, inspired by the ideals of the Civil Rights Movement and the War on Poverty. Dr. Cahn founded TimeBanks.Org, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has become the global hub for timebanking. Under his leadership, the movement has taken root in communities across the United States and in 42 countries worldwide, enabling over 3.2 million exchanges and transforming how people connect, support one another, and build resilient communities.
