Illinois-based TUTORING CHICAGO delivers the power of education to children facing economic barriers through one-to-one tutoring and high-quality, academic, developmental programming. With the help of more than 1,000 trained and educated adult volunteers and a program staff comprised of former teachers, each student is matched with their own tutor and receives weekly individualized instruction during the school year. Michigan-based LIFE REMODELED focuses on the intentional and equitable revitalization of Detroit neighborhoods through substantail investments of cash, labor, and materials. The nonprofit assists in three areas: renovating and repurposing former school buildings into opportunity hubs, repairing owner-occupied homes, and annually mobilizing thousands of volunteers in six days to beautify four square miles surrounding its current opportunity hub, the Durfee Innovation Society.
