GUITARS OVER GUNS offers students from Miami’s and Chicago’s most vulnerable communities a powerful combination of music education and mentorship with professional musicians to help them overcome hardship, find their voice, and reach their potential as leaders. Former President Barack Obama recently stopped by the group’s studios in Chicago to meet the students and listen to their music. CBS NEWS has the story.

California-based LAZAREX CANCER FOUNDATION improves patient access to cancer clinical trials. The nonprofit removes barriers to FDA clinical trials for advanced stage cancer patients by providing assistance with trial participation costs and identification of clinical trial options. CANCER TODAY magazine featured the nonprofit’s CEO as she tells the story about her doctor not paying attention to her symptoms, which unfortunately is a much more common problem for women than men.
